Information in Chinese.pdf
On the basis of wonderful community feedback we believe that the 2010 Summer School will be a fantastic opportunity for students to study and improve their academic skills. Our motto is to complement and prepare students for the TAS curriculum and we feel these course offerings will allow us to achieve this goal. We are keeping many of our favorite courses and also expanding into new areas.
The majority of the new classes are in the Upper School this summer. We now are expanding the ‘for credit’ classes to five different options. We will be offering Honors Physics Summer Course, Honors Chemistry Summer Course, Geometry with Proof / Honors Geometry with Proof Summer Course, Algebra II Summer Course and Honors Algebra II / Trigonometry Summer Course.
All courses offer: 1. Credit for Graduation* 2. The ability to enroll into specific science or mathematics courses that allow students to ‘skip’ subjects that they otherwise need to do during the regular school year.*
*The student must successfully complete all requirements of the summer courses and also attend 18 of the 20 summer school days.
Furthermore, we are also offering other classes in the area of Expository Writing, Essay Research, and Preparation for US History, SAT II Preparation for the Chemistry Exam and SAT II Preparation for the Biology Exam. Additionally, the very popular Internship Program is once again offered and we hope to assist approximately 40 TAS rising seniors find a meaningful ‘internship’ this summer.
We are still offering classes in the lower school and middle school. The new addition will be a Mandarin class which will be offered for students who want to improve their Mandarin listening and speaking . This course will be similar to the Mandarin classes that we offer for the non-native speaker in the regular school year. This summer course will be offered for both Middle School and Upper School students.

Course Dates:
Like last year the summer school will run for four weeks: June 7 – July 2 Some courses are two weeks and others are four weeks in duration. The internship program will be running for 6 weeks and most students will complete their internship on July 16th. Please see the below table for the duration and tuition costs of the 2010 Summer Academy courses.
Gaining Approval for Certain Classes
For some classes registration requires departmental approval before enrollment is allowed. These include:
· Fast Forward Program – requires the Fast Forword teacher’s approval – Mr. Michael Grande · Honors Physics and Honors Chemistry – requires the approval of the US Science Department – Mr. David Iverson · Geometry with Proof / Honors Geometry with Proof, Algebra II, Honors Algebra II / Trigonometry – requires the approval of the US Mathematical Department – Mr. Dan Uhlman · SAT II Chemistry Preparation – requires their chemistry teachers approval. Any questions please contact Mr. Steve Orensky , Dr. Peter Morgan or Mr. Pat Preisinger · SAT II Biology Preparation – requires Ms. Sarah Peter’s approval
If there are questions you can also send your inquiry to Shaun O’Rourke, the Summer School Coordinator.
Please understand that all courses have a limit on the number of students. Once approval has been obtained from the respective faculty member – sign ups will be first come, first serve – so if you intend for your student to take a TAS Summer Academy course please register as quickly as possible.
